Q: What should a properly fitted bit look like
? |
A: We do not use the 1 or 2 wrinkle method because "some horse have fat lips, and some horses have skinny lips". The bridle should be adjusted so the bit clears the back teeth. To check the width, stand in front of the horse and place one hand on each end of bit. Now, push side to side with a gentle pressure. the bit should fit like a Good pair of boots, Not tight, but not loose. |
Q: Since the width is adjustable, can the horse
change the width by playing with the bit ? |
A: NO, The bit is designed so that
when the port is rotated to horizontal, the bridle rings start
to move inward, so the sides of the horse's head stop the port from
rotating all the way around. The width can only be changed when the
bit is out of the horse's mouth. |
Q: Will the cushion springs ever stretch or break ? |
A: NO, the cushion springs only flex laterally to provide the cushion. The pull is applied via a 49 strand stainless steel aircraft cable which runs from the rein ring, up through the shank and is connected directly to the bridle ring. |
Q: Does the length of the shank
determine how severe the bit is ? |
A: Partly. The shank length is
only half of the answer. The formula is to divide the length of the
shank by the length of the purchase ( the distance from the center
line of the mouth piece to the top of the bridle ring ). This will
give you the effective leverage factor. So you see it is possible
to have a shorter shank bit apply more leverage than a longer shank
bit. |
Q: I've been told that bits with a port are more severe, True or False? |
A: When it comes to conventional bits this is mostly true, but not so with our bits. This is because our ports float, which means there is never any tongue or palate pressure applied by our bits. Pressure is only applied to the bars where it belongs. |
Q: What material are your bits made of and do you
offer copper or sweet iron mouth pieces ? |
A: All our bits are made of the
highest quality stainless steel and contain 8% copper to maintain
the horse's soft, moist mouth. Sweet iron is just another name
for plain steel which will rust and can cause problems with any
moving parts. |
Q: Do you have different port heights available
? |
A: It is not necessary to offer different port heights because our ports float which allows the horse to position the port where it is the most comfortable for that particular horse. Our ports also never apply any tongue or palate pressure, only on the bars where it belongs. > CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR PORT STYLE OPTIONS < |

Q: How do the reins attach to the One Hander and do I need special reins ? |
A: No special reins are required. Both reins attach to the single rein ring on the bottom. |
Q: There are a lot of bits out there that develop
pinch gaps with use, will yours ? |
A: Our bits are designed with all moving joints away from the horse's mouth. So they never develop pinch gaps no matter how much use they get, Guaranteed. |
Q: Do you offer any type of warranty or guarantee
? |
