The Freedom Rider eliminates the Painful Nut-Cracker Action of broken mouth piece bits such as a Tom Thumb.
If you use any type of jointed bit you should try this test:
                          
1 ) Hold the bit facing away from you as it would be in the horse's mouth.
2 ) Place your hand with palm up, from the top down between the curb strap and the mouth piece.
3 ) While holding the mouth piece in your palm wrap your hand up around the mouth piece like the horse's mouth.
4 ) Now, pull the reins...Feel the Nut-Cracker action while the joint drives up into the horse's palate.
